Title: Facts about the "Ananas Comosus" Time: Monday, December 17, 2012
Q: "it can be used as medicine, can be consumed both fresh and cooked, canned, juiced etc. & even used to produce textile fibre" Can anyone unriddle the statement? (answer will be revealed at the end of the post no cheating! aAaa! No trawling the net to get the answer >< or maybe after this paragraph I guess you can already know what am I talking about cuz I'm not good at creating suspense!)
Excuse me for blabbering much...ok now straight to the point! Actually I'm gonna post some facts about the tropical fruit aka PINEAPPLE. Such a weirdo to post about something like this, felt like I'm like taking over the task of an article writer??? (ps. still crapping...)
Wondering why am I posting about it? It is not my favourite fruit after all as I always dislike eating it due to those pricking sensation occurring after I consume those chilled fresh cuts but few days ago was an exceptional case. My neighbour gave us some which their relatives planted by themselves and it was really sweet & juicy especially after leaving it to chill...hmm...heavenly. The bad thing started to arise on the very day I've eaten and also the day after happened after I ate it, DAMN! Here comes diarrhea, next day pain in the lower abdomen(cramps like what happen during women getting their period pain), a little gastric.. Why must the stupid pineapple gave me such a torturing moments? As if I'm a foe of it >< Bloody thing always causing me problems even though I've consumed it after meal. Guess I'm gonna banned pineapples especially raw once for my entire life since it always left me with bad impressions!
After I've recovered I went to google some info about that freaking fruit since I don't have much things to do these days...Read up a few articles regarding pineapples. The first thing when I found the articles I straight away zoomed into the SIDE EFFECTS...found out this:
"After eating a large amount of pineapple, you might experience swelling or tenderness on the lips, inner cheeks and tongue. [large amount? I just ate 2 slices lo!] Typically, this reaction is caused by pineapple's meat-tenderizing properties, and it should resolve itself within a few hours. However, if the swelling is accompanied by a rash, hives or difficulty breathing, it could indicate a pineapple allergy. [lucky thing I didn't get all those] In this case, stop eating and seek medical attention immediately. "
"Taking in too much vitamin C is generally quite safe.[safe? MY FOOT LAR!] As a water-soluble vitamin, excess vitamin C is generally excreted through the urine. However, extremely high doses of vitamin C can cause diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, heartburn, headaches and insomnia[wah!]. Taking in too much of the fruit's bromelain can result in skin rash, vomiting, diarrhea and excessive menstrual bleeding. Large doses of the enzyme could also stimulate uterine contractions, potentially leading to miscarriages in pregnant women."
Honestly speaking, I never knew pineapple could cause so many unpleasant side effects and serious problems. Should really take note about this! However, considering the nutritious value[source of antioxidant, vitamin C, high fiber, can help to slim down & detox] in the spiky green crowed fruit I might still consume it in future but this time I better get those cooked once instead raw ones. Perhaps I should use it to cook some dishes :)
Few more days to Christmas and that also means school holidays are also coming to an end :( Btw, I have a few pending posts which I aim to complete before school reopen
More upcoming posts but I'm still thinking which one should I work on first?
